YHHN receives £5 million funding from Cancer Research UK

The Yorkshire and Humberside Haematology Network (YHHN) has been awarded £5 million in new funding from Cancer Research UK. Building on YHHN’s previous work, the funding will allow YHHN to carry out a five-year programme of research about blood disorders. This will include projects following patients throughout their journey, from circumstances pre-diagnosis, such as genetic or lifestyle factors, through to diagnosis, management and outcomes.

Dr Alex Smith, co-investigator on the grant, said, “We are very excited to receive this funding, which will enable us to continue working with our NHS colleagues to address real questions of concern to clinicians, patients and researchers.”

Alison, YHHN participant, said, "The funding is fabulous news for YHHN and patients. As a blood cancer survivor, it is good to know that the research I have contributed to can continue and help inform Government policy and clinical decisions, which, in turn will help improve the lives of those affected by all types of blood disorders."
